Step Into
The Highlands
~2011~

Find It:

Community Cultural Center of Tonasket

311 Western Ave. Tonasket, WA 98855

Featured Scene:

Passing through the archway of western clematis, a common native climbing plant of the Okanogan Highlands, you find yourself in the mural and face-to-face with a downright odd looking mountain. It’s not a twisty rock dreamed up by a creative artist, it’s an actual landscape feature of the Okanogan Highlands, and it’s name is…Corkscrew Mountain!

Corkscrew Mountain is located almost directly north of Republic, WA, near the US-Canada border.

The Artist:

Andy Eccleshall of Andy Eccleshall Fine Art

Andy Eccleshall resides and paints in Edmonds, Washington, and specializes in painting murals (though now retired from this work) and fine art, specializing in oil paintings. In addition to several murals in Tonasket, Andy’s work is displayed at art galleries worldwide, including the Seattle Art Museum.

This mural is located on the north-facing wall of the Community Cultural Center of Tonasket, transporting people directly from the Tonasket Natural Foods Co-op into early summer in the highlands!

Another one of Andy’s specialties is the trompe d’oeil technique. Here, on the north side of the CCC, Andy paints a doorway to the highlands, inviting passersby to step into nature.
